Ultra Long Range drivers are currently the pinnacle fo the disc golf drive. These are the fastest discs ever made. They have an elongated wing on the rim that gives them superior penetration and wind resistance. Most of these drivers tend toward stable to overstable. This is because in order for a disc to achieve advanced speed it must be thrown with a higher arm speed, and below a certain level of stability, higher armspeed will cause an understable disc to turn too much. This is a catch 22 that is slowly being addressed and overcome with advancing disc technology.
For players with lower armspeed it will be beneficial to stay with the least stable of these discs or get them in the lower level plastic so they will beat in quickly. You can get these discs to improve your distance but you will have to get some decent armspeed going to get some real performance out of them. Either that or get some really beat ones. When these get really beat they will do what no disc "right out of the box" will do. They will fly far and fast and turnover easy with less armspeed.
On the other hand, for those with plenty of torque and snap, these are the discs that make breaking the 400` barrier a real possibility. And for some, they`ll be looking at 500` or more.
Disc Golf Trivia - Despite the fact that these are the fastest discs on the planet, and, in theory should be the farthest flying discs ever, the World Distance Record disc is not included in this category. Acocrding to the Guiness Book of World Records the disc that currently holds that record is a 165 gram DX Valkyrie.
